MINNASSIST

Did you lose Medical Assistance on October 1, 2026? You may still get coverage.

Yes, many people can. A federal change ended Medical Assistance (MA) for many adult refugees, asylees and parolees, but many of them can get MinnesotaCare instead. MinnAssist helps you apply for free, by phone. Call MinnAssist at (866) 655-6606.

What to know

  • Some people were moved to MinnesotaCare on their own. Others must apply again. Read every letter you get.
  • Other choices: MinnesotaCare, emergency-only coverage (Emergency Medical Assistance), or a MNsure plan.
  • Most MinnesotaCare members pay a monthly premium.
  • Pregnant people can still get MA, whatever their immigration status. Lawfully present children under 21 can still get MA.
  • Help is available in English, Somali, Oromo and Kiswahili. Tell us your language when you book.

Who this covers

  • Adults 21 and older who aren't pregnant and are refugees, asylees, Afghan or Ukrainian humanitarian parolees, trafficking victims, or battered noncitizens (VAWA).
  • Still on MA: green card holders who meet the five-year waiting period or an exception, Cuban or Haitian entrants, and COFA migrants.
