A letter. An email.
Or a surprise at the doctor’s office.

Start with what happened to you.
Look for the program name and deadline on your notice.

Talk to an MNsure navigator ↗

“They told me I’m not covered.”

You may find out at an appointment, pharmacy or after missing mail. If a renewal, application or requested proof is unfinished, MinnAssist performs that work. The reason coverage stopped determines the next step.

“My case is waiting on something.”

Your letter or account requests income proof or other information, or your case is pending or approved with verification still due. This is different from only asking for a status update.

Missed the date or already lost coverage?

Keep your notice and contact MinnAssist about the application, required renewal or missing verification work. Don’t assume it is too late to submit paperwork. An agency decides whether coverage can reopen, when it starts, and whether earlier bills are covered. If the issue is only an unpaid premium, claim, appeal or routine account problem, use the direct support routes below.

THIS MAY BE YOU

You received a request for information, a proof deadline, or an application marked pending or approved with documents still required.

THIS MAY BE YOU

Your notice says you no longer qualify for MA or MinnesotaCare and now have qualified health plan eligibility through MNsure.

WHAT MinnAssist DOES

We complete enrollment in the qualified health plan you choose through the applicable special-enrollment route. A routine income change by itself is not the same enrollment service.

What makes the work payable?

MNsure’s rules include active navigator certification, the required case association, the applicable activity and outcome, and available funding. A pending-case service is not payable simply because paperwork is sent; the case must meet the policy’s outcome requirements. MinnAssist does its work; the agency decides eligibility and coverage. We do not select private plans for you or perform MA/MinnesotaCare managed-care plan choice services.

IF YOUR NEED IS DIFFERENT

Another organization may be the better first stop.

We do our best work on the enrollment services above. Use the right agency, insurer or another navigator for these standalone needs. A referral does not mean you are ineligible for assistance.

Find another navigator ↗
Account or general support

Password resets; account creation; status-only checks; notice explanations; general coverage education; routine changes without a new applicant or qualifying public-to-private enrollment; coverage termination; and automatic or passive same-plan renewals: start with MNsure or the agency on your notice.

Public-program renewals processed in MAXIS

Contact your county or Tribal agency. These renewals are excluded from navigator per-enrollee payment even though some other required renewals qualify.

Premiums, medical bills, claims or benefits

Contact the insurer or program named on your bill. Making a MinnesotaCare or private-plan premium payment is not a MinnAssist enrollment task. A payment issue can cause a coverage problem even when an application is complete.

Appeals, plan advice or public-program health plan selection

Use the appeal instructions and deadlines on your notice, a broker for private-plan recommendations, or the public program’s official plan-selection contacts. Find official support.

No active public-program eligibility and no private-plan shopping access

An application with neither outcome does not qualify for the navigator payment listed here. That is an agency outcome, not something this website decides. Contact the agency for your decision or appeal options.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Before you

Understand the basics.
Then let’s talk about your situation.

Find other support
Is the help really free?

Yes. Certified navigator assistance is free. Insurance itself may have premiums or other costs. For example, some MinnesotaCare members pay monthly premiums and copays.

About free navigator assistance · MinnesotaCare costs
Who can MinnAssist assist?

The complete list above shows every activity in the navigator payment policy separately, with examples of what you may have received or experienced. Choose the entry matching your program and task. Other requests have direct referral routes below the list.

How is free navigator assistance funded?

MinnAssist does not receive grant funding. We receive per-enrollee payments for qualifying enrollment-related work under MNsure’s payment policy. You do not pay MinnAssist for navigator assistance.

MNsure’s current policy lists $100 payments for specified qualifying activities, subject to its requirements. This is a payment to the navigator organization—not a fee charged to you or a payment to you. Not every support activity qualifies. Read MNsure’s navigator payment policy.

Do you help people throughout Minnesota?

Yes. MinnAssist serves individuals and families across Minnesota. Choose your application or enrollment service above and contact MinnAssist to get started.

Can I ask for help if I already have coverage?

Yes—for the required renewals, new household applicants and qualified health plan enrollment services listed above. If your coverage renewed automatically and you have no new application or enrollment task, use the referral section for routine questions.

What should I include in my first email?

Use the name you’d like us to call you, a safe way to reply, and a short description of the help you need. Add your preferred language and any deadline.

Please don’t include Social Security numbers, passwords, medical records, financial or immigration documents, or photos of notices. Ask how documents can be shared securely.

Does contacting you submit an application?

Calling or emailing MinnAssist does not submit a coverage application, renew coverage or report a change. To reserve a phone appointment, choose a time in the booking calendar and complete the booking confirmation.

If a deadline is close, follow your official notice or contact the agency named on it rather than waiting for an email reply.

Where can I check official program information?

Visit MNsure for marketplace information or the Minnesota Department of Human Services for Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare application guidance. The application route depends on your situation.

What to have ready for your appointment

BEFORE YOUR PHONE APPOINTMENT

Have the right information beside you.

MinnAssist calls the number you booked with. Charge your phone, choose a quiet place, and have any notice and deadline ready. Keep access to your own email and coverage account; keep passwords private.

New application or someone in your household needs coverage

Have household names and birth dates, income records (recent pay statements or other income evidence), employer contact information, current coverage and any job-based insurance offer. For applicants, have Social Security numbers if they have them, identification and applicable immigration documents available for the application process. Tell us who needs coverage and when other coverage ends.

Required Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare renewal

Have the renewal packet, return deadline, current household, income and insurance information, and any proof the packet requests. Bring any termination notice if you missed the renewal.

Missing documents or verification

Have the request showing exactly what proof is needed, the deadline, and the requested proof. If something is unavailable, tell us what is missing.

Coverage ended or a clinic says you are uninsured

Have any termination, renewal or document-request notice and the last date coverage was active, if known. If the clinic or pharmacy was your first warning, tell us what they said. You do not need to know the cause before speaking with us.

Private-plan enrollment or a different plan for the new year

Have your eligibility or plan-selection notice and current plan information. For a special enrollment period, have the qualifying-event date and supporting notice or proof, if applicable. For comparing plans, have preferred doctors, prescriptions and a monthly premium budget in mind. Public-program managed-care plan selection uses different support.

Paper or special application

Have the form or agency request and deadline, plus the application information above as applicable. Tell us if it concerns DHS-6696, DHS-3876, Emergency Medical Assistance or Medicare Savings Programs. For an application before release from prison, have the expected release date and discharge paperwork if available. The exact requirements depend on the application.

Missing an item? Keep your appointment and tell us. Follow any official deadline while gathering documents. Do not send SSNs, passwords, medical records or document images through the booking form or ordinary email. Ask MinnAssist how required documents can be shared.

Is this the appointment you need?

Book for one of these enrollment tasks. In the booking form, choose the closest service:

  • Apply for coverage: a new online or paper application for Medical Assistance, MinnesotaCare or a MNsure private plan.
  • Complete a required renewal: your MA or MinnesotaCare notice asks you to complete and return a renewal form.
  • Finish required verification: you were asked for proof before your application can become active.
  • Get coverage for a household member: add someone new, or apply for someone already listed who was not seeking coverage.
  • Enroll in a private plan: select a plan during open enrollment or an eligible special enrollment period, including moving from MA or MinnesotaCare; or choose a different private plan for the new year.
  • Use a special paper application: DHS-6696, DHS-3876, Emergency Medical Assistance, a Medicare Savings Program application, or the application process before release from prison. See the full service list and requirements.

Found out you are uninsured at a clinic or pharmacy? Choose “Coverage stopped or clinic says uninsured.” Tell us whether your notice mentions a renewal, missing proof or a new application. The enrollment work needed depends on why coverage stopped.

Need a password reset, a status check, help understanding a notice, an appeal, a premium payment or public-program health-plan selection only? Find the appropriate support here. Automatic renewals and MAXIS renewals are outside the renewal services listed here.

You never pay MinnAssist for navigator assistance. These are service categories, not a guarantee of eligibility or payment to MinnAssist. MNsure pays for qualifying results and required case association, not each appointment or individual task.
